The 1990s could be described as a golden age for sitcoms on American television. Seinfeld and Friends – both considered two of the greatest shows of all time in the genre – had the better part of their respective runs on TV during the decade.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Everybody Loves Raymond and Married With Children are other examples of some of the most amazing sitcoms from the ‘90s. ABC had their very own version of a classic comedy titled Boy Meets World, which they broadcast between 1993 and 2000.
The main protagonist of the show was known as Cory Matthews, whose life the series tracked from his days in elementary school all the way to the time he started a family of his own. That character was portrayed by actor Ben Savage.
William Daniels, Will Friedle, Danielle Fishel and Trina McGee were all part of the Boy Meets World cast as well. Like many other shows in its time, the Michael Jacobs and April Kelly series often tackled real-life issues like sexual abuse, addiction and relationship problems.
McGee has been one of the cast members to make brutal confessions about their time on the show.
Trina McGee only joined the cast of Boy Meets World in Season 5 as a recurring character, before she was promoted to be a regular in the final two seasons of the show.
The actress was given the role of Angela Moore, who was best friends with Danielle Fishel’s Topanga Lawrence in college. McGee appeared in a total of 59 Boy Meets World episodes.
Trina McGee was one of two non-white members of the main Boy Meets World cast, alongside Alex Désert. Years after the show had ended, the actress revealed that she had been the subject of racist behavior from some of her co-stars, with Will Friedle, Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage being implicated.
McGee did say, however, that the first two had apologized for their actions.
Trina McGee’s character was last involved in the penultimate episode of the show. The actress recently appeared on Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle’s podcast – titled Pod Meets World – and she revealed that she was under the impression that they had all asked the showrunner that she be excluded from the final episode.
McGee’s former colleagues were very adamant that they did not ask for her to be omitted from the series finale.
Despite that sad ending to her Boy Meets World career, Trina McGee continued to pursue her acting career on the small screen. She never quite landed a similar profile of role, but she would go on to appear on shows like The Hughleys, All of Us and In the Cut.
McGee only featured in single episodes of those particular television programs.
As well as the various TV shows that Trina McGee has been a part of, the New York-born star has also worked in a number of big screen projects. Her first movie appearance after Boy Meets World was in the 2002 comedy Friday After Next, where she played a character called Cinnamon.
McGee has also since featured in Da' Booty Shop, Pastor Jones and LAPD African Cops.
In 2014, a Boy Meets Worldsequel series arrived on Disney Channel, titled Girl Meets World. Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel reprised their roles as Cory and Topanga respectively, and were in fact married in that more recent timeline.
McGee returned just briefly in the new show, as she featured in Girl Meets Hurricane, the eighth episode of Season 2.
Trina McGee has advanced her portfolio beyond acting, and is now involved in multiple behind-the-scenes roles.
Since 2010, the multi-talented artist has either written, directed and/or produced the movies Jessica Sinclaire Presents: Confessions of a Lonely Wife, Sins of the Guilty and Detainment. McGee is also a musician, and has worked as a composer within the film industry.
By the time Trina McGee was making her debut in Boy Meets World, she had been married for about six years – to a man known as Courtland Davis. They had two kids together, a son named Langston and a daughter called Ramia, before they got divorced in 2001.
McGee has not remarried since, although she is currently said to be in a relationship with a fellow actor known as Marcello Thedford. The two are also frequent collaborators.
