The WB series, Popular, which ran for two seasons on the now-defunct network, began in 1999 and ended it's run in 2001. It starred several actors who have gone on to do bigger things and was co-created by Glee's Ryan Murphy. It told the story of two very different young women in high school who despised each other due to those differences and are forced to live together when their parents decide to get married.
The cast consisted of Leslie Bibb, Carly Pope, Christopher Gorham, Tamara Mello, Sara Rue, Bryce Johnson, Tammy Lynn Michaels, Ron Lester, Leslie Grossman, and Lisa Darr and Scott Bryce as the parents. Some of those names may still be familiar to fans today, as they have thriving acting careers, while a few may not be the biggest names in Hollywood these days, but are still acting.
Series star Leslie Bibb has gone on to have an incredible acting career, with over seventy projects under her belt as an actress. Her most noteworthy films are the Iron Man movies released by Marvel. She played the role of onscreen reporter, Christine Everhart in those films. Aside from the Marvel movies, Bibb has appeared in many film and television projects over the years including but not limited to About a Boy, GCB, Tag, American Housewife, and Confessions of a Shopaholic. As for her personal life, the actress has been dating actor Sam Rockwell since 2007.
Carly Pope has over ninety credits listed on IMDb for acting roles. She most recently guest-starred on series such as Quantum Leap and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. She has also been booking film roles such as Easter Sunday starring Jo Koy and The Lost Husband, starring Josh Duhamel and her former Popular co-star Leslie Bibb. As for her personal life, Pope is currently single and doesn't have any children.
Tamara Mello's last acting credit was in an episode of the School of Rock television series in 2017. She now runs a jewelry business on Etsy called Madre De Olivia. She is married to a man named Paolo Cascardo and they share two children together. After her stint on Popular as the lovable Lily Esposito, she made a movie called Tortilla Soup and spent the rest of her acting career appearing on various television shows in guest roles such as Children's Hospital and The Mentalist.
Christopher Gorham went on to have a recurring role as Henry Grubstick on Ugly Betty, the role of Auggie Anderson on Covert Affairs, and even played the Wizard of Oz on the drama series Once Upon A Time. He has also had roles on shows such as Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer and Insatiable. He is married to his Popular co-star, Anel Lopez, and the two share three children together.
Sara Rue's most note-worthy acting role is probably the role of Martha in the film Pearl Harbor from 2001. She also starred in the movie My Future Boyfriend in 2011. Most recently, she has guest-starred in several episodes of the series The Rookie. She married a teacher named Kevin Price in 2011 and gave birth to a daughter in 2013. She and her husband adopted a second daughter in 2016.
Bryce Johnson's most notable role since Popular is probably his role as Detective Darren Wilden on Pretty Little Liars. He has made several movies since then, as well, and mostly guest-stars on tons of television shows including What I Like About You, Nip/Tuck, The Mentalist, Drop Dead Diva, NCIS, and Supernatural. He has also made appearances on Ryan Murphy's shows, Glee and American Horror Story.
Tammy Lynn Michaels hasn't acted onscreen since 2019 when she appeared in an episode of Dolly Parton's Heartstrings on Netflix. Prior to that, her last onscreen role was in 2005 on the television comedy series, Committed. She currently runs a blog where she talks about politics as well as her personal life. She was in a relationship with Melissa Etheridge for nearly nine years and the two had twins together in 2006.
Ron Lester passed away in 2016 when he was 45 years old. He died from liver and kidney failure after his family requested that he be taken off life support. At his heaviest in 2000, he weighed over 500 pounds and underwent gastric bypass surgery, during which the actor flatlined. He made it through the surgery, though. His final onscreen acting role was in the film Racing Legacy in 2015.
Leslie Grossman's career hasn't stopped since she played the outrageously hilarious Mary Cherry on Popular. She has since starred in several seasons of Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story, and had a three-episode arc on The Good Place. She also recently had a recurring role on the series, Love, Victor, and appeared in two episodes of The Goldbergs. She was married to John Bronson from 1999 to 2000 and the two share a daughter together.
