T.I. Says Iggy Azalea Will Win The Best Rap Album Grammy Award

Hate it or love it, Iggy Azalea snagging the “Best Rap Album” at tonight’s (Feb. 8) Grammy Awards is a very real possibility, and no one knows this more than T.I. The Aussie rapstress’ label head is confident that she will take home the gold, given the Grammys history. Noting that he is “pro Iggy” as she the only artist nominated who has “benefited his campaign,” Tip made sense of Iggy’s prospective win.

“It’s whatever is commercial is successful, and whatever plays the most on the radio, which is why I think Iggy is going to win it,” T.I. told HipHopDX. “I don’t think that’s nothing she has to be ashamed of, that’s something she should be proud of.”

While supportive of his protege, T.I. was not remiss of the underlying problem with the Grammys: an inaccurate scope of the urban categories. Noting that certain hip-hop legends have never won the still-coveted award, the Grand Hustle general discussed the lack of a hip-hop voice on the Grammy board.

“I don’t think its enough young urban socialites on the board for us to have a clear voice,” he said. “You can look at the list of people who’ve never won a Grammy to see that. Tupac and B.I.G. have never won a Grammy, Snoop Dogg has never won a Grammy. That kinda says a lot.”
