Erykah Badu has been catching flack for a social media post in which she joked about cheating with “soft dudes” who likely wouldn’t be tuning into the Super Bowl.
Yet, the R&B legend appears unphased, as she holds no remorse for those who apparently missed the punchline.
On Sunday (Feb. 11), Badu took to X, formerly Twitter, prior to the Super Bowl LVIII matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
The Dallas native announced that the day was an opportunity for people to cheat on their football-crazed lovers with a “soft dude,” since the “men” in their lives would be occupied watching the game.
“Perfect day to cheat with a soft dude,” Badu wrote. “Men gone be watchin football.”
The 52-year-old’s humorous quip ruffled the feathers of followers who disagreed with the notion that one’s fandom of football is a defining factor in their masculinity.
“A man not being into football don’t mean he soft,” wrote one user who seemingly admonished Badu for the assertion, which they deemed as incongruent. “We gotta stop accepting flaw sh*t.”
When that same account also responded by saying that Badu is “too old for this” brand of rhetoric, the singer quote-replied by telling the user that their eyes “are very close together,” seemingly referencing the profile picture.
In a subsequent tweet, Badu continued to clap back at critics of her tweet, advising them to “unfollow” her account if they’re incapable of taking her jokes. “And if u mad about that tweet… unfollow me… I don’t trust people with no sense of humor. Beat it.”
